Discovering the players on Kronos

This is the second part of a multi-part blog serie dedicated to discovering the Kronos players, especially those that maybe would not come on the forums and talk about their experiences. What is your current character and talents? Why did you decide on those ?

My current character is Jakeltank, a level 45 protection orc warrior in the guild <Myrmidon>. I chose this specialisation because I like to tank. I know it is a unusual combination to use for leveling but I love having my shield around and playing like this.



Is this character an alt? Do you have alts ? Can you tell me more about them ?

This is my main. I have a level 18 mage but I switched to this warrior because there weren't enough tanks. Indeed, I couldn't get a tank for the wailing caverns and I noticed other groups had the same problem so I decided I might as well help solve the problem leveling a tank.

Could you tell me a bit more about you? (who's behind this character, your mmo experience, what you feel relevant, etc)

I am a MMO-player, I tried out Guild Wars, Rift, Warhammer but nothing beat vanilla wow, even if Rift does get quite close. I used to play on vanilla right before BWL was released, and then on WOTLK which was pretty bad. In some way I am a casual raider, I just enjoy UBRS, LBRS, Stratholme and PUG raids.

What made you decide on this server? How did you find out about it ?

I posted a comment on a youtube video about Warcraft and someone recommended this server. I got all nostalgic listening to the login music and decided to give it a go.

What are your current short-term (days/weeks) and long-term (months) objectives in-game?

Long term I want to reach level 60 and start collecting T0.5. In the short-term I do not know... Maybe having some good time ?

What do you login for? Or the last time you logged on, what did you do?

The last time I logged on I did Zul'Farrak. It took us some time to find a healer and the run went well. I have to say I am surprised how well the stairs event worked, it is very well scripted.

What was the hardest thing you've had to do on this server? Can you be specific ?

The hardest thing I have had to do was earning enough money for my mount, I tried selling my alchemy potions but they did not sell well, some agility potions even did not sell at all.

Did something make you wish to quit or switch server?

Nothing made me want to switch server. I did consider taking a break due to IRL matters.

What were the last sad and happy moments you've had in-game? (positive or negative experiences)

My last negative experience was when I suddenly realized I was low level compared to my guildmates and I couldn't join their dungeon runs. The most recent good moment was when I found a very cheap recipe for Elixir of giants on the auction house, I am sure it will be of use later.

What was the best moment you've had so far on the server? Can you be specific ?

My best moment was when I first joined this vanilla server after all those years. I felt so nostalgic. And then when I researched some cool recipes on the databases only to grind them, buy them or find them later, and grind the reagents until they drop.

I appreciate the interest and I am very happy to see that many are reading thoses interviews and showing curiosity. (and in some ways it also works as a big thank you to the Kronos team when players are happy) I only did a very small part of the job, the players themselves should get the glory

I am open to suggestions about potential other questions to add, modify and/or remove for future players I would talk with. Or suggestions/ideas in general.

There's never gonna be enough players/community members like tekai. I can't recall a single intervetion from him that wasn't supportive or aimed at improving the realm in any way he could. Truly an asset.

Tekai your part on Raid Preperation is spot on. Very sensible views. Did you post that already on the forum here?
I have been crusading for years against the type of player that wants to bring Naxx lvl consumables to easy raids... That is nice if you do a record speed run, but not needed every week.

I particularly appreciate your 1st question, Zaj, it is likely I will use it or some altered version of it.

Thank you Muneca. I mentioned it here but thought it was a bit off-topic, which is why it is hidden in a quote. I did write about other things on the blog too, if others should be interested. I absolutely agree that full consumables and world buffs are way overkill for most of the content, unless you need to push it (ex: our first Nefarian kill with Friends).

What is your current character and talents? Why did you decide on those ?

My current character is Cruelfate, a level 50 undead rogue in the guild <Myrmidon>. I am specced hemorrhage because I do PvP while leveling. I might switch to combat sword when I get to a higher level and do dungeons because it does more damage.

This is my main character, I have no alts.

Could you tell me a bit more about you? (who's behind this character, your mmo experience, what you feel relevant, etc)

I have been playing World of Warcraft since 2006 (when a friend of mine handed me a 10 day free trial) and I really liked the feeling that vanilla had. Everything was fresh, and new, I liked the world, the dungeons, the classes, it was the best moments I have experienced.While the Burning Crusade expansion was good it then started to get worse. In my opinion at this point Blizzard went in a wrong direction, world PvP was gone, classes got streamlined, the content got too easy, flying mounts happened, the community changed, etc. This ended up with me quitting retail some time after Mists of Pandaria.

What made you decide on this server? How did you find out about it ?

I wanted to try vanilla again, find the world PvP and the game I used to like. I looked for a vanilla server on Google and did some research. I found that Nostalrius had a too big population and players were saying it isn’t well scripted. Other servers had custom stuff, patch 2.4.3 and level cap at 60, instant level 60, bugs or no scripting, which were a big turn-off for me.

What are your current short-term (days/weeks) and long-term (months) objectives in-game?

My current short-term goal is to reach level 60. After that I will do dungeons with my guildmates to get T0 and T0.5. I will then do some PvP (for the gear) and start raiding when <Myrmidon> will have enough players for that.

What do you login for? Or the last time you logged on, what did you do?

The last time I logged in I did some quests to get ahead on the road to level 60.

What was the hardest thing you've had to do on this server? Can you be specific ?

There wasn't anything hard to do while leveling.

Did something make you wish to quit or switch server?

No. I really enjoy playing on this server, I didn't encounter any bugs so far. Kronos is the best vanilla/classic server I have ever played on. Good job

What were the last sad and happy moments you've had in-game? (positive or negative experiences)

I don't remember a negative moment right now. I am glad to have found a friendly community and no bugs at all so far.

What was the best moment you've had so far on the server? Can you be specific ?

My best moment was during some PvP, I was fighting a mage and he died the very moment he blinked, it was funny as hell .

I think the Kronos team is doing a really good job, I am enjoying it very much ! Keep doing that and don't add any custom stuff!

This series needs more gnomes! Oh and I also suggest, I mean demand renaming it into
'Discovering the gnomes of Kronos.....'

I heard your plead, Muneca. Indeed we have a shortage of gnomes on this thread, I am glad you do contribute and try to make a difference. On a more serious note those interviews take some time to do and it is far easier to stay on my current character, but I could one day redirect my attention to the Alliance.

I heard that a couple players liked how those interviews made them question themselves and self-reflect. I am very happy to hear that . Feel free to post your own thoughts over here and share the questions with your friends if you appreciate them !

What is your current character and talents? Why did you decide on those ?
My current character is Gorthaur, a level 22 undead affliction warlock in the guild <Bubbles>. I always thought warlocks were fun to play but I couldn't level one very far in vanilla as I had a hunter main. I now want to experience the feelings I had in vanilla again and have a chance to level a warlock to 60, that is why I created this character.



Is this character an alt? Do you have alts ? Can you tell me more about them ?
In a way this character is and isn't an alt. My first character on this server was a hunter. I tried to get the same experience I had in vanilla on it, in a nostalgic fashion. But then I rerolled warlock because I felt I was missing the « vanilla warlock » feeling even more.

Could you tell me a bit more about you?
I'm a 27 year old guy from Norway. I started playing on WoW when it first came out and I can still remember the thrill of that first experience and how we then talked about it at school. That thrill has followed me up until now and I'm trying to find it again.

What made you decide on this server? How did you find out about it ?
I got to know this server through friends who started playing on Nostalrius. After I heard about their experiences I made some research about vanilla servers and I tried to compare them. I found Kronos to be the more comprehensive and thorough re-experience of vanilla. For example the scripting and bug tracking system seems better here and I have heard the community is lower but also more « tightly knit ». Overall this server seemed to offer a very good quality product, to say it differently.

What are your current short-term (days/weeks) and long-term (months) objectives in-game?
At the moment I am enjoying the leveling and revisiting the zones and dungeons. When I hit level 60 I will try to do some raiding and get the hard-earned tier-sets. I never raided past MC in vanilla so I look forward to progressing through raids here.

What do you login for? Or the last time you logged on, what did you do?
I log on to level my character and gain profession skills. The last time I logged on I did SFK with some of my friends (a level 40 mage and a tank). The run went well. I did have mixed results getting parties in general as sometimes there aren't enough players online to do a specific dungeon. That's when it helps to have friends on the server, just like on my SFK run .

What was the hardest thing you've had to do on this server? Can you be specific ?
The elite quests I tried to solo were the most difficult thing I have had to do on the server. Yesterday I tried to do the last Kolkar quest in the barrens (Counterattack!) with my voidwalker and using fears, but Krom'zar was hitting way too fast and resisted. I then tried to kite him on my hunter but to no avail. I had to ask for help. … In some ways it is part of what I wanted here, a dangerous world where you have to think before acting, where what you do matters. I don't mind being killed and events tipping against my favor.

Did something make you wish to quit or switch server?
In terms of difficulty nothing made me wish to change servers, I like encountering something hard, unless it is broken or not working correctly. I did consider Nostalrius, but only because of its population.

What was the last sad and happy moments you've had in-game? (positive or negative experiences)
My latest positive moment was switching to a warlock and rediscovering the vanilla warlock feeling. I haven't had any particularly negative experience yet.

What was the best moment you've had so far on the server? Can you be specific ?
It is hard to pick one. Maybe the first time that my friends and I got together for SM : Library with my hunter, I felt a surge of nostalgia at that moment .

I look forward to getting the same nostalgic feelings and good times as I advance in the game!

What is your current character and talents?
My current character is Novaskin, a level 33 tauren beastmaster hunter. I decided to spec beastmaster because it makes leveling solo easy. Besides, I used to play beastmaster during vanilla when I did some raiding (up to BWL 4/8) and I have good memories of it.



Is this character an alt?
This character is my main. I have a level 14 shaman alt that I intend to level to 60 and spec restoration to heal raids. I also have a mage that I want to level for some raiding and PvP. Both of my alts will have professions to increase my development once I am at the maximum level.

Could you tell me a bit more about you?
I am Italian, I used to play in retail vanilla where I cleared MC, ZG, AQ20, Onyxia and BWL up to 4/8. I couldn't go any further because the Burning Crusade (TBC) expansion came out, besides I was quite young and didn't yet know much about english (it still lacks sometimes ). I have a retail account that I played up until september and I own multiple level 100 characters with a lot of gold and almost every profession maxed out. I stopped playing on retail because I lost my interest about the game content. I now hope to clear the whole vanilla end game content more than I have ever hoped before!

What made you decide on this server?
I came to Kronos because I was looking for a server holding vanilla content with some qualities. I had heard about private servers and I investigated some forums and the web until I made my decision to try Kronos (who looked like one of the best). Here I hope to find a community where interactions matter more than on the current official game and have to interact more with people to reach my aims. I'm very happy about this so far.

What are your current short-term and long-term objectives?
In the short term I want to get to level 60 in a very short time, level my professions to 300 and buy the level 40 mount. In the long-term I want to get the T0.5 gear set, get attunements for Onyxia, Molten Core and BWL, find a proper guild for raiding, level my alts to 60 or 35 with 300/300 professions, buy an epic mount and do some PvP.

What do you login for?
I login to to develop my main character as fast and best as I can and to meet players that could then become friends.

What was the hardest thing you've had to do on this server?
The hardest thing I have had to deal with was the impact of the old quest system. Indeed I had to work out a proper way to level without wasting too much time on unworthy quests.

Did something make you wish to quit or switch server?
I haven't yet had a reason to quit this server. I found some minor bugs but they were absolutely bearable. For example I had an issue with my pet being bugged, I asked for help opening a ticket and I received effective assistance in less than a minute which made me feel really satisfied.

What was the last sad and happy moments you've had?
I really haven’t had any particularly negative experience yet, even if the leveling was at times quite hard. Perhaps this will have changed once I reach level 60. My latest positive experiences were when I found myself grouped up around the world with people to quest together, just like the old times and in a manner you cannot do in the current official World of Warcraft.

What was the best moment you've had so far on the server?
My best moment was when I realised that the server was really working and I found people fairly satisfied about it. I had previously believed that a quality vanilla WoW content would be completely lost. But I was wrong... finding this server was like a great memory I had stored somewhere that I just found again .

Would you like to add something?
I want to say I am satisfied to play on this server and I have had a good experience on it. Although some bugs did pop out sometimes I am still fine. I hope the best for this server and I hope I can help its population to grow by bringing in more and more people!

I used to play on retail vanilla 10 years ago and I have very good memories of it. I know things will now be different as lots of things happen in 10 years.

What made you decide on this server? How did you find out about it ?
I dislike the current World of Warcraft because in my opinion it no longer has anything to do with the original world created in the Warcraft RTS games so I decided to look for the authentic and original WoW. I do not really know why Kronos precisely, I searched on some forums and it seemed to be the most stable with the least bugs and thus the closest I could find to the original vanilla servers.

What are your current short-term (days/weeks) and long-term (months) objectives in-game?
I want to level to 60 and then maybe start raiding in the next year. I think there isn't anything else to do than raiding once level 60.

What do you login for? Or the last time you logged on, what did you do?
The last time I logged in it was to do some quests. It felt like Blizzard's vanilla.

What was the hardest thing you've had to do on this server? Can you be specific ?
Leveling was sometimes annoying. Otherwise I did have bad experiences with other players that ninja-looted items or caused wipes, but overall it did not happen often.

I recently did a dungeon run and had no wipes.

What is your current character, class and spec? What made you decide on those ?
My current character is Pussochkram, a level 33 undead female firemage in the guild <Confratres>. The character is part of a proud tradition of mine. On every realm I’ve played since retail vanilla all those years ago I’ve had an undead female mage with this exact name and appearance. The character is really an alt that I’m going to level to 60 to do some fun world PvP with. I used to do that on my Pussochkram-mages before, and also did some PvP-movies. That is something I might pick up on this server too since I miss it a bit

What made you decide on this server? How did you find out about it ?
I stopped playing on retail for many different reasons but still wanted to immerse myself in the World of Warcraft now and then. So a friend of mine and I started trying different 1.12.1 private server projects and comparing them side by side. While many were alright I did not find one that clicked with me, one that would make me feel like « this is it », « this is the place where I will spend a long time and level to 60 » until Kronos. Kronos had no pay to win, a blizzlike experience, good scripting and stability (a project that I think will likely stay for longer that 8 months) and seemed to be the best one I could find. As such I decided to settle on it. And so far I haven't regretted it!

*new* If you had a friend just starting out on this server, what would you like to tell him ?
I would tell him to consider what faction, class and race he rolls very carefully. Also, if you care about your characters haircut etc you don’t want to change your mind when you’re lvl 55+. If he came from retail s/he might have forgotten what vanilla WoW was like and have a shock, so in a line I’d say: « Be prepared, this is not the same as retail, think before you act, participate in the community and have fun! ».

Could you tell me a bit more about you? (who's behind this character, your mmo experience, what you feel relevant, etc)
I’m 26 years old and I live in Sweden. I have been playing WoW since vanilla, but after WotLK just in a very casual way (less than 10 hours per week, with frequent and very long breaks). This is due to my job (as a construction worker) and because I have a family and other interests and hobbies (board games and misc geek stuff).

*bonus* What is the last special, peculiar or unusual thing you have done or seen on Kronos?
That must be doing this interview. When I logged on I didn’t expect to end up participating in something like this .

What are your current short-term (days/weeks) and long-term (months) objectives in-game?
As I am a very casual player I do not bother setting clear goals beside playing when I feel like it and having fun. But obviously I would like to get this character to level 60, get some PvP gear and give the Alliance a hard time .

What was the hardest thing you've had to do on this server (quest, PvP, dungeon, group, guild, etc)? Can you be specific ?
If by hard you mean challenging to my skills then I must say one of the duels or world PvP I have encountered while leveling. Now, leveling in itself is hard... but in a different way ^^.

Did something make you wish to quit or switch server? What would ?
So far I am super-happy with my experience here and I have never considered quitting or changing server. Massive decline in population or the introduction of some sort of pay-2-win system would make me consider leaving (even if I think this is quite unlikely to happen on this server). While I’m not against helping fund the server I think it should be done in other ways.

*bonus* What do you fear in the future of Kronos and your experience here ? What do you hope for ?
I really don’t want the server to turn into a TBC one once we reach « the end of the road » with Naxxramas cleared, etc. I came here to play Vanilla and since I do not play that much I will probably never be tired of it. It’s unlikely I will ever end up in a guild that have Naxxramas on farm but that is not my goal either. I am here for the fun and to enjoy the ride without the feeling the pressure to gear up and clear the content before the next expansion.

What were the last positive and negative experiences you have had in-game?
I met a rogue named Redead yesterday and duelled him for quite a while by the sea in Desolace, that was great fun! As for the bad part I’m going to say trolls in world chat. But I guess it could’ve been worse.

*bonus* What do you feel most proud of having done on Kronos?
I feel most proud of making an attempt to spread some love and good vibes on the server. There is so much evil in the world I would like my means of escapism to be a paradise of peace, love and understanding hehe. I guess not everyone agrees that I’m the nicest one, but hey, at least I’m trying!
