From a post that was recently made on the BugReport section, stealth is not meant as an escape mechanic to get away from pets that are following you or NPCs. Currently it works such that if you stealth while a pet is running after you, it turns and runs back to its owner. However this is not how it works in retail, as this blue post points out:

http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/125724-commonly-reported-issues-that-are-not-qa-bugs/

It is the third post, first part of it (number 9).

Also video evidence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0O4RKeD4g4

As Epyon pointed out (wanted to put this here too in case anyone missed it), vanish should be the escape mechanic for rogues, not stealth itself.

Do you think Kronos should revert this since it's not like this on retail?

All credit goes to Amrod for following up on this, I just wanted to put it in an available spot so people can see it.

I'd like it to be as it was on retail Vanilla. Which as I recall stealth would not de-agro a pet that was chasing you. Vanish did however erase pet agro.

Huh. Honestly I forgot how stealth actually worked in these situations since 2005. But that video evidence is pretty damn clear. And as long as there are no patch notes or more convincing evidence than this that stealth could be used as an escape mechanic, I am all for stealth not being an escape mechanic.

While Chero always appreciates community feedback, this is something that changes pvp balancing and I don't think a poll will have any influence on it being fixed.

Amrod is right.
The forum is not the place for this. Report it in Twinhead if you feel that this mechanic needs to be changed.
Please make sure to provide evidence for the right patch. The video was made early in 2006. Before or during patch 1.10.
Most likely there was no change from then to 1.12.1 as I could not find anyting in later patchnotes.

According to this post however it seem like it was a BUG on retail that did not occur every time.

I'll leave this open for now so people can post their sources.

Something similar, the book of the dead, and the summon book from Onxyia, if a stealth person was within 20 yards, it out find them for you. I had both books in retail, you can use onethen equip the other asap. Because they would find stealth people, rogues hated me. (and was human).

I think the big question comes down to whether a ranged attack can be launched or a spell be cast on a target that just hit the stealth button back in Vanilla. Remembering back to then, I'm almost positive that when playing a druid, my spellcast would fail mid way with a "no target selected" error if I attempted to Root a rogue that just came into range, but then faded out. I quickly learned to lead off with Faerie Fire instead, but that's a different matter.

Rather than go off of just my memory though, I did some digging for nearly 40 minutes on an old Warlock forum board with posts ranging from 2004 all the way to WoTLK. Sifting through the oldest posts in the PvP section, I came across numerous "omg Rogues!" posts discussing strategies and so forth, but not the thing I was looking for.

I couldn't find any evidence on this first glance stating proof positive something like " The rogue tried to stealth but I put my pet on them " or any advice stating " Have your pet attack first every time, so it will ruin their stealth. " The only advice I kept coming up with from 2004 and 2005 posts were things like "Cast your instant DoT as fast as you can to keep them from using stealth or vanishing."

Maybe someone can find some evidence from this old posting board, or boards that are linked from it.

After some search on http://shadowpanther.net/roguechanges.htm I could only find this
"F: Player guardians and temporary pets now stop attacking when a rogue uses Vanish, but city guards will not."
Here you can find some other nice info.
Also i voted NO because priest's spell Mind Vision will make the rogue visible even after he enterted stealth. Only vanish will remove it. Seems similar. Blizzard keept it this way for a reason.

Next time make the poll public so we can see how many desperate rogues register new accounts in order to prevent this getting fixed :D
