Vanilla honor system was bit complicated, especially on higher ranks.
I'll try to clarify all the moments.

So, lets begin with basics.

You get Honor Contribution Points(CP) for kills and achievements on BG an in world PVP. Each week you will get certain amount of Ranking Points (RP) that depends exponentially of your CP.

The amount of ranking points you need for ranks:

Ok. Now, how do we convert our CP to our RP?
So, here's a graph, that is used in RP calculation (it's tested, and it's working perfectly)

Here's the direct link to imgur

Also, twinstar team organized a Honor Ladder , where you can check you current RP.

So, how you can calculate how much honor you need for next rank?

The formula is simple: Your current RP * 0.8 (decay of 20%) + this week's RP = your current rank.

Example:
For example i'll pick top 1 standing's for Alliance and Horde
Horde's top 1 current RP is 39790
He's decayed RP will be = 39790 *0.8 = 31832.
To get his 10'th rank he'll need 40000-31832 = 8168 RP. According to graphic, it's about 85-90k CP.

Let's calculate how much CP he'll need for R 11?

45000-31832 = 13168 RP. According to graph it's 450000 CP (most likely unreachable).

If we split this on 2 weeks?

Let's say he'll get 230k CP this week. it's 11000 RP.

31832+11000 = 42832 (middle of R10)

Decayed RP: 42832*0.8=34266
45000 - 34266 =10734 RP. Accordin to graph - around 220 - 230k CP.

Now, lets try to calculate Alliance's top 1 R12

He's currently R11 with 46258 RP
Decayed RP: 46258*0.8 =37006 RP
50000 - 37006 = 12994 RP According to Graph - 430k CP (most likely unreachable).

So, split on 2 weeks.

Let's say he'll get 230k CP this week. it's 11000 RP.

37006+11000 = 48006 RP.
Decayed RP: 48006*0.8 = 38405 RP.

50000 - 38405 = 11595 RP. Around 270-280k CP.

FAQ:

Q: Is my rank depends on my standing?
A: It only depends on R10 - R13 (you need to be in 1.4%) and for R14 (need to be in 0.1%, with server population, most likely just to be 1st standing, if active server side pop > 2000 then there can be 2 R14's).

Q: How much weeks of active honor farming do i need for reaching R13 -> R14.
A: Average calculations told us that you'll need at least 8 weeks if you farm 12000 RP each week (320k CP).

If you have any questions fill free to ask me on forum on ingame (Knopochka of Alliance)

Thanks for information. And how about dishonor kills and becoming hostile to your fraction?) Or it was in early patches?

Description of Dishonorable kill according to Blizzard:

Dishonor Points

Even among enemies as bitter as the Horde and the Alliance, there is honor. If you flaunt this honor and engage in objectionable PvP play, such as killing new players vastly inferior to you in level, or killing essential non-combat NPCs such as flight masters or quest givers, you will earn dishonor. If you accumulate enough dishonor through your criminal actions, you will be branded an outlaw. As a consequence, you'll suffer experience penalties, lose access to your own faction cities, and become so hated even by your own kind that every faction NPC will attack you on sight.

Not tested about Exp enalties, and hated with your own faction.
If you got dishonorable kill, you get instant - RP. There's no formula about how much -RP you'll get, but the amount is pretty big. I think like 10-15 dishoroble kills can drop you a rank.

Thanks so much for your guide, it's a amazing!!!

Also I wanted to report a pair of typos (?). First one is "an" instead of "and":

You get Honor Contribution Points(CP) for kills and achievements on BG an in world PVP.

And second one is that you wrote "Rating Points" instead of "Ranking Points" in the tab, or maybe is that wanted? And if so, are "Ranking Points" the same as "Rating Points"?

[CR]I also have a question. I always thought that the amount of honor I need to get next rank depends also from other people honor. How many people are getting standings and how much honor they get. So I guess I always thought it wrong?[/CR]

Edit: I think you answered my question here:

Q: Is my rank depends on my standing?
A: It only depends on R10 - R13 (you need to be in 1.4%) and for R14 (need to be in 0.1%, with server population, most likely just to be 1st standing, if active server side pop > 2000 then there can be 2 R14's).

So basically the amount of honor is fixed up to r10 and then it starts depending on my standing from r10 to 14?

Edit 2: I'm using this macro to calulate my RP, if someone is interested:

Code:
/script P=(math.floor(GetPVPRankProgress(target)*10000))/100 W=UnitPVPRank("player") N=(W-6)*5000+5000*P/100 Q=(W-5)*5000-N*0.8 SendChatMessage("Rank Progress: "..P.."% ".."Current RP: "..N.." RP to next rank "..Q.."")

Edit 3: Sticky please.

the conversion cp-> rp and the graph is wrong

it goes for everyone like this (no matter their rank): cp determine standings, standings determine rp

I jumped this week from 24600 to 26700 RP, which is ~7000 RP factoring in the 20% decay.
I had 168k Honor/CP, which would result in ~10k RP according to the posted graph.
Calculating it via standings (ST. 48 of 438 -> top 10.9%), puts me above the breakpoint for group 9 with 7000RP.

Rimah is correct

I don't see how a post that shows incorrect information is sticky, it shouldn't be

Damn vanilla honor system! Now I'm even more confused >_<

Actually, it's much easier than some shady empirical graph...

Maybe TS meant that the graph is an estimation to how the things were on retail. Or how the things were on Kronos. But it's a rough estimation anyway.

WoWWiki is rather legit source, so post should be rewritten indeed. But the colored table with rank names and bonuses is cool no matter what :)

15 HK's is apparently not the minimum for Rank 1 (Private/Scout) and placement; it's probably 25 like other servers.

honor.jpg

You needed 15hk on Kronos 1 (hotfixed because low pop), I am sure it is 25hk on Kronos2, and the hotfixe seems removed on K1 now.

BTW False information shouldn't be sticked, this "guide" is completly wrong, Rimah is right.

This makes it sound like your RP gains are completely seperated from your standing and only depend on this graph. Most of the post lists accurate facts and formulas, but the way you convert honor into RP is totally random:

Empirical data from the stone ages that might have been accurate for one community on one server at one specific time? Why do you sticky this post?

Honor/CP->Standing->Rating/RP, ok. Why similar standings lead to completely different rating then? Is it somehow level-dependable as well or what? But the situation is the same if we count only 60s...

Edit: got it, the ladder shows the overall rating of a player, not the weeks' RP. What is it for then? :D I mean, we can roughly compare each other by HKs, but wouldn't it be more informative if the real amount of honor earned by a player is included in the ladder?

How likely is it to remain at exact same ranking points at RANK 7 :O Shouldn't it change at least a little bit, up or down, no matter your standing?

edit: nvm i see now i dropped 20 rp, didn't notice at first :S

Honor System [Improvement]

I added a suggestion that aims to extend the honor system's dishonorable kills to a couple of toxic PvP situations. It would be relevant if you share your thoughts on it. Thanks!
