Money making game - guess ZG release date!

I was thinking about making a little contest. One pays 5g to participate and guesses the ZG release date (namely, day, server time). X people participate, and he/she whose guess was the closest to the real release date gets all the money after its announcement. If more than one player guessed the closest date - the prize is divided equally.

Three concerns:
1) is it legal? There's a rule against the in-game casinos, but it's more like a lottery or extrasensory battle :D
2) will there enough people participating to make the reward rewarding? I mean, I think it's fun, but you guys are boring sometimes :p
3) would you trust me to organise it? It's the least of my concerns, because - c'mon, you know me, I would never scam any of you :)

P.S. We did something like this - before the launch, we tried to guess Kronos release date with gone-long-ago <Strength of Unity>. I still owe Jargo 6g, but I guess he doesn't play...

There are Testers & other staff that get to know when it's actually released. And the word can spread among friends. So people that actually know the release date might participate in stuff like this.

The feck did I just read
Boring! I knew it!

Well, for testers & other staff participation would be closed ofc. And I'm sure testers & other staff are decent enough to not to try to cheat. As for friends... Well, again, I doubt those who know talk about it much. I bet they afraid that Chero will tear out their tongues for it xD And I think only Chero can set the certain release date. So there's not such a big problem in general.

I'm not too sure why you're evening asking. If it's in the rules for the server, logic dictates that likely it would also apply to the forums ;)

That being said, here's a copy/paste from the rules of the server: – Conducting any CASINO type activities is forbidden.
So yes this applies

No-no, the only thing I asked about was - is it considered CASINO, cause it's not even random, not profitable to the one who organises etc. If considered - then thanks and feel free to close the thread. Thanks for all who've interested (if any :D).

Could you define "Casino type activity"?
Does this include rolling for gold, betting, etc or just a character running a casino?

One of a synonim to "gambling" is "speculation"... So I assume AH is against the rules.

I mean, it haven't made it more clear :)

This isn't a good idea even if forums did allow it because of what Whitt stated. Hearsay and spreading happens, there are probably very many people who know the day it's coming already.

Well, ok, maybe it was a bad and "dangerous" idea indeed.
I'll simply organise a charity-lottery someday if it won't be considered "casino" :D

Wikipedia said:
Gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value (referred to as "the stakes") on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods.

Does this mean that something like "50g to whoever tops the DPS charts" is against rules? If so you should strongly reconsider your rules.

Why is the rule there to begin with? As long as it's only in-game items or currency being gambled I see no reason to disallow it.

I think it's fair to say you're reading way too much into it.

I think it's fair to say the rules are extremely unclear, meaning it's up to the individual GM to decide what is right and wrong, which is a very bad thing.
We very much need some clarification on this.

I do not consider such minigames illegal, I like some kind of roulette or casino, as an addition to full-fledged games. It would be nice if this was not treated strangely, because this is a normal type of game with a certain randomness at the core. Probably, this is because of my passion for gambling, mostly I am attracted to the best European slot machines https://topcasino.sk/hracie-automaty/. It's all about attitude, the main thing is to regard it as a hobby and have an understanding.
