This is going to be the pre-raid BiS list for almost all PvE healing priests. The main things people may tweak, depending on their spec or preference, would be the trinkets.

This is the spec I intend to play with http://www.wowprovider.com/?talent=11226005_5_85012301305c1d35051030300055r

I know some people would rather go heavy in the disc tree for Power Infusion, but I have never played that spec so I can't say too much about it.

Legs – Padre’s Trousers (Illyanna Ravenoak – Dire Maul West)
https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=18386

Back – Cloak of the Cosmos (Immol’thar – Dire Maul West) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=18389

https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=18327

Trinket – Royal Seal of Eldre’Thalas (Dire Maul Book – Holy Bologna)
https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=18469

Wand – Wand of Eternal Light (Watchman Doomgrip, Warbringer Construct – Blackrock Depths) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=22254

Shoulder – Mantle of Lost Hope (Lord Roccor – Blackrock Depths) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=22234

Hands – Hands of the Exalted Herald (Princess Moira Bronzebeard – Blackrock Depths) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=12554

Ring – Rosewine Circle (Urok Doomhowl – Lower Blackrock Spire) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=13178

Feet – Faith Healer’s Boots (Warchief Rend Blackhand – Upper Blackrock Spire)
https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=22247

Head – Cassandra’s Grace (Auction House / Lucky world drop)
https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=13102

Ring – Fordring’s Seal (In Dreams - Tirion Fordring Quest Chain) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=16058

Alternate Trinket Options:

Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon (Darkmoon Beast Deck) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=19288

Second Wind (Golem Lord Argelmach - Blackrock Depths) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=11819

Burst of Knowledge (Ambassador Flamelash - Blackrock Depths)
https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=11832

Briarwood Reed (Jed Runewatcher - Upper Blackrock Spire) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=12930

Also,

Chest - Truefaith Vestments (Balnazzar – Strat Live) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=14154 It requires 300 tailoring and is a very rare drop. The pattern is tradable but the chest itself is BoP (so you have to make it yourself). This chest is BiS throughout Vanilla.

Back – Hide of the Wild (Crafted – Leatherworking) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=18510 In the early months of the server it will not be that easy to get, but once the server gets established it would potentially be easier to farm the mats for this than it would be to get the cloak off Immol'thar. You will eventually want to get this however because it is BiS through AQ (Cloak of Clarity may be a possible option during AQ).

Any thoughts on this or anything I missed are welcome (I'm a little rusty on Naxx/AQ gear, but I don't think anything is better than Truefaith).

Regarding Band of Mending, I don't think the dungeon set 2 questline will be available right from the start.

For trinkets i'd personally go for:
- Second wind (Use: Restores 30 mana every 1 sec for 10 sec. (cooldown 900s)
Equip: Increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 22.)
- Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon (2% chance on successful spellcast to allow 100% of your Mana regeneration to continue while casting for 15 sec.)

Eh Second Wind active is pretty useless in practice (300 mana every 15 minutes translates to 1,6 mp5 or so) and Blue Dragon isn't as good on priest as on Druid as you are going to spam less spells.

I'd personally prefer 2x mindtap talisman but that's up to personal preference I guess.

A couple of thoughts.
First of all please post the items in the order they appear in your character panel, not in some random order making it impossible to find a specific piece.

Rings, the first ring you mentioned is not available until naxx, I suggest you put Fordring's Seal instead, incredibly strong ring from an EPL questline.

Trinkets, Mindtap talisman isn't all that great, DiM trink and Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon is the best option, but before you are able to get Blue Dragon I suggest the Briarwood Reed.

Headpiece, Cassandras Grace isn't as good as people make it out to be. A green headpiece with 50 or more +heal is better and way cheaper.

The list is ordered by instance (so when you run a specific instance you have an ordered list of the drops you are looking for), and it is perfectly easy to read. Fordring's Seal is already on the list. Your thoughts on trinkets are personal preference. While you may be right about the green, Cassandara's Grace actually seems less rare. Same goes for wand, a +healing green wand will be BiS but is rare and random.

Ah, I guess I looked at it the wrong way.

About wands, they got changed in some patch (I'm not sure which) and should not be as strong as they are on most private servers. Here is the issue report on Feenix for reference.

I want to say that the dragon finger wand of healing was OP during Vanilla. I tried to do some research but couldn't find anything definitive. If the stats on the dragon finger wand are the same on this server, it definitely makes it BiS. I will update this list once we figure it out.

Keep in mind that the Dragon Finder and all the other random enchant wands are fixed and don't give rediculously high values like 33+ heal anymore.

rip wowhead comments
wowhead, wowwiki, stuff that's related to retail wow is ok of course. but linking up from other private servers is kinda ... you know :shifty:

Also, linking up items from Twinhead here gives a nice mouseover item preview.

Hi,
before listing BiS items I would start with a spec and explain how you want to play. I would choose some items over others regarding the spec I play. So therefore I won`t argue about most of the items listed above, only some.

Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon (Darkmoon Beast Deck) https://vanilla-twinhead.twinstar.cz/?item=19288
It is one of the best healer items in the game but without enough spirit it is worthless. I would only use this with a minimum of 300 spirit and at fights that take longer than 2,5 minutes. (feel free to theory craft a bit + compare to Mindtap)

About the wand:

With Patch 1.10 the priest was buffed and this nice wand nerfed.

T3 chest is much better than Truefaith:

T3:
21 spirit, 27 int, 25 stam
+64 healing
+6 mp5

Truefaith:
+14 stam
+73 healing
+6 mp5

Truefaith has a little more healing, but lacks the int/spirit that T3 has. It's amazingly good for how (relatively) easy it is to get, but it's not "BiS through all of vanilla".

A problem with these pre raid "bis" lists, are that they are based on healing only (and to be even more specific, spamming Heal rank 2). There are very few fights in early raiding in vanilla where all you do is spam heal rank 2. Most fights require you to dispel some as well. Most of this gear is pretty bad for a fight like Lucifron.

Doesn't really make sense to make a bis list for one shitty fight at the start of MC that lasts all of 30 seconds. This gear should give you enough mana to dispel on Luci.

Robes of the Guardian Saint from Fankriss in AQ40 are better than Truefaith IMO: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?item=21663

20 stam
20 int
70 healing
7 mp5

Hi,

I agree with you that DCBM is the best (priest and druid) healer trinket in the game, but requires large amounts of spirit before it works. I tried doing some theorycrafting to try to come up with an answer to this question and compared DCBM to Shard of the Scale and Mindtap. This is what I came up with. I am not a "math guy," so I would love criticism from those who are more comfortable with math. Thank you.

mptout5sr - mptin5sr = mptD

mptD x 2.5 = mp5

mp5 x 3 = manaperproc

manaperproc / 16 = 5secondperiods

period x 5 = timeperproc

timeperproc / 2.5 = castspertimeperproc

castspertimeperproc x 0.02 >= 1 then DCBM>SotS

Or, in other words:

A - B = C
C x 2.5 = D
D x 3 = E
E / 16 = F
F x 5 = G
G / 2.5 = H
H x 0.02 >= 1 then DCBM>SotS

A = mana per tick while out of 5 second rule
B = mana per tick while in 5 second rule

Here's the logic:
If you have shard of the scale, take it off. Then you take your mana per tick while out of the 5 second rule and subtract your mana per tick inside the 5 second rule. This will give you the delta in mana per tick that blue dragon gives you when it procs.

Mana ticks every 2 seconds, so multiply by 2.5 to get the mp5 DCBD will give you when it procs.

Multiply this number by 3 to arrive at the amount of mana you will regen in the 15 seconds that the proc from DCBD lasts.

Divide this by 16. SotS is 16mp5. This will give you the number of "5 second periods" that SotS requires to generate the same amount of mana as one proc of blue dragon.

Multiply this number by 5 to get the actual number of seconds it will take SotS to generate the same amount of mana as one proc of blue dragon.

Take this number of seconds and divide it by 2.5. 2.5 is the cast time of the typical priest healing spell I use in raids. Replace this number with whatever the casting time of your usual spell is - whether it is 1.5s for flash heal, or 1.5s for global cooldown or whatever the casting time is. This will give you the number of casts you can complete in the time it takes SotS to regen the mana that a single proc of DCBD gives you.

Take this number of casts and multiply it by 0.02. DCBD has a proc rate of 2%.

If the result is greater than or equal to 1, that means your DCBD will proc within the time it takes SotS to regen the amount of mana a single proc of DCBD gives you.

If the result is 1 exactly, that means DCBD and SotS are exactly equal. If it is less than one, SotS is superior to DCBD based on your current gear level. If it is greater than 1, then DCBD is better than SotS.

This math however assumes a few things that are not realistic. First of all, it assumes chain casting your spells so that you never leave the 5 second rule and waste no time between casts. Secondly, it does not account for double procs where a cast you make within the proc of blue dragon re-procs blue dragon. Thirdly, it assumes only using 2.5s cast spells when priests (and druids) will almost always be using a mix of 2.5s, 1.5s, and instant (GCD 1.5s) cast spells, and druids will sometimes use longer cast time spells.

In order to account for this disparity between idealized assumptions and impossible to reliably quantify real world usage, we can fudge the numbers a bit. Instead of a final value of 1 being the changeover from SotS to DCBD, we will arbitrarily use 1.5 and hope that it sufficiently accounts for the difference. If anyone has a better idea, I would love to hear it.

Applied to my gear (when I first wrote this) without any raid buffs:
103 - 44 = 59
59 x 2.5 = 147.5
147.5 x 3 = 442.5
442.5 / 16 = 27.7 (rounded)
27.7 x 5 = 138.5 seconds
138.5 / 2.5 = 55.4 casts
55.4 x 0.02 = 1.108

Therefore, DCBD will proc 1.108 times in the same time it takes shard of the scale to restore the mana that I will get from one proc of DCBD, meaning that under ideal conditions DCBD was slightly better for me than SotS.

Working backwards, and if we assume that a result of >=1.5 is sufficient to compensate for the difference between ideal assumptions and reality, then a mptD (or value for variable "C") of 80 is where DCBD clearly surpasses SotS.

So if A - B = 80 or more, then use DCBD.

For best results, you will want to find the values for A and B while in full raid buffs without wearing Shard of the Scale (or Mindtap Talisman - see below) and without any flat mp5 buffs like Blessing of Wisdom or Mageblood Potion.

DCBD vs. Mindtap Talisman

Let's run the same numbers for Mindtap Talisman. This item gives 11mp5, so we will replace E/16 in our formula with E/11.

Again, assuming a final value of >=1.5 is our changeover, the changeover mptD is 55.

Conclusions
If you are using Mindtap Talisman and C >= 55, you should use DCBD instead as it will provide more mana back than Mindtap will. If you then acquire a SotS, use that until your gear improves to the point where C >= 80.

That is kind of my point. Since the fights are so short in Molten Core, and you are not spamming heal rank 2 during any fights really. Int is more valuable on short fights than on long fights. Someone on Nost did the math behind this and found that if you weigh Heal as 1. Then for a short fight int (less than 2 minutes of length) is valued at 2.323. For long fights (15 minutes of healing) on the other hand int is valued 0.4351. By applying this logic, even the devout crown is a better pre raid (that is pre molten core) item than Cassandra's grace.

Using the same logic, T2 chest is a better item than truefaith vestments on most fights in the game. T2 first setbonus and if you are running with DCBD as well, makes the difference even larger.

I don't know how your guild runs MC, but if we stopped for mana every 2 minutes, we would be in there for many more hours than needed. Downranking and regen is the key to priest healing, not large mana pools. That means healing, spirit and mp5.

But yeah, in theory, on short fights, int is more valuable.

I still wouldn't say int heavy gear is best in slot. It might be situationally more powerful, but not overall best.
