Rogue Help, thinking of first time rogue

So I really just love Batman as much as a Religion, that's the main reason I want to be a rogue, other reasons being I want to be able to help and support the group I'm with and take out enemys. That being said my only vanilla experience with rogues was back in vanilla when all I did was get up to lvl 8, spam sinister strike and eviscerate and yeahhhh. Also I sucked when I went onto the instant lvl 60 ED pvp realm and got all the gear handed to me. I generally just don't know which spells are the most useful to me and when to use them, I would like to do both PVP and PVE, most of the time I just go with a PVP or PVE talent build depending on the class and use that for both types of gameplay. However I don't know how to use the skills and abilities of a Rogue in the game to the best of their capabilities, or at least on a good enough level.

Any tips or guides or help would be much appreciated, this is the build I cam up with as I would like to use swords and be combat, or any other specc I dunno much about the speccs xD I also want to be human.

See my comment on daggers (keep in mind this is for leveling and you will be very strong if you follow this guide)

For leveling, main hand dagger is the way to go. Since you will not see crit gear til mara ring.

This finishes with best farming spec and least gear dependant. Imp sap is added to allow this to be great for 5 mans while you gear. I personally take imp sap much earlier as it helps a lot in questing, but my guide has more damage earlier because for people, damage is more appealing.

On Vanilla retail I leveled combat because I thought I wouldnt be able to.backstab at all. Man was I wrong. Just leveled my rogue on another server learned the value of energy watch addon.

Open ambush, slice n dice right after. Then use ghostly strike, in this order, they will expire at the same time, gouge, - bandage if needed, back stab. Wait till right before your energy tick when you have 35+ energy and Kidney shot, backstab. It should be dead. If not slice n dice again, wait til 55 energy, gouge, right before it wares off, back stab evisicrate.

There are mobs that have very low armor in Vanilla. With this spec you can 2.shot them with ambush, kidney then back stab. Keep relentless going so you have over a 90% plus crit chance with ambush, regardless of gear.

Tip, casters while casting a spell, if you circle around them while they cast you can get a backstab off. Course make sure you will have energy for kick or.kidney shot after.

To make this spec best you need CC watch and energy watch addon. Timing is everything with your energy ticks. You will learn how much enegry is needed to save before you can gouge and watch your energy ticks.

Same with your opener, i ambush at 100 energy right before thr next tick, so ambush.is.60 but as soon as i hit it, i got 20 back, so i open with 60.energy left. Wait one more energy tick and gouge, (before you have ghostly) backstab right before cc ends, kidney shot with 45 or more energy right before next tick. This will allow enough time to get back stab before kidney rins out. This takes patients because you are not attacking all the time and ALWAYS energy watching, but is fun, effective and your cooldowls are available every 3rd fight.

Swords is a good choice at level 60. Especially if you are human. So you are in luck there. However, if you really want to grasp the true mobility and reaction based combat of a rogue, level daggers. That being said your sword spec is off a bit. If I was PVE only this is what you would want:

I think I won't really mind using daggers instead of swords, I guess I just want to learn what to use as a Rogue - to which you have helped immensly with, thank you very much it means a lot :D This is exactly what I needed! I think I need a dagger pve specc with imp sap, if that's possible.

Rogue talents are hard to pick, you wish you could have them all

I know :( They are all really good..

I leveled rogue with daggers as mutilate when I first played Rogue in retail vanilla. I honestly don't know what I was thinking but I think I hit around level 48 with it. That was before I found out that I could spec into other trees lol; but boy I loved imp. Kidney shot.

I plan on using daggers to level again as well. I followed mostly of what you said. It's all about using your head doing it that way. The fun way. ;)

Awesome guide.

I think you mean Assassination, Mutilate is the ultimate skill of the Assassination tree in TBC :p

Yes yes, you are correct :D. I was watching TBC videos right now as someone playing assassination / mutilate hehe.

Hmmm, could anyone link me to any all-round/all-purpose rogue builds? :D I know it's bad to do but I like to build talent builds for both PVE/PVP, I guess It comes down to personal preference, could anyone tell me which combo point generating attacks I should use in both PVE and PVP and the finishers depending on situations? what should i keep looking out for etc? :S

is quite fun. And you have this cool sound when u crit with abilities. :p For PvE u will spec the improved "Slice & Dice" cause thats one of your priorities, after u got that buff u'll want to "Rupture" and "Eviscerate" after that. In PvP u wont ever use "Slice & Dice", ur options in PvP are "Eviscerate" (and obviously the "Improved Eviscerate" talent is better for PvP), "Expose Armor", "Rupture" and ofcourse "Kidney Shot". Combo generator obviously "Backstab".

Tbh Vanilla gameplay is pretty simplistic, standard sword combat spec, same as above finishers just "Sinister Strike" as generator. U can play around with some talents to go in either PvP or PvE priorities like e.g. imp kick/sprint.

Then theres Combat Dagger spec, which is pretty much only for PvE or Hemo/Subtlety which is pretty much only for PvP. Uhm yea that's how much I can remember from Vanilla. :D

I'd personally recommend putting some points in MoD (better stealth) early on, before lvl 20. Sure it's not the best idea optimization-wise, but utility-wise it's very important. It'll avoid you a lot of deaths. Besides, what fun is playing a rogue if you can't sneak around efficiently?

A good rogue doesn't need that in order to sneak around efficiently. :)

True, I personally start taking it at lvl 12, distract isnt til 20, even then it can be a pain when you get caught, will have extra down time after the fight if you dont get your opening in.

Uhh... You can rupture in 5 mans and 10 mans but if you are wasting a debuff slot with rupture in raids you're probably gunna have a bad time. That is assuming Kronos has the debuff system working. (There is a cap on debuffs)

Yea I would say that's just the norm, if the raid is pro they might tell u not to use it, e.g. if u have a more debuff reliant class like an sp.

Debuff system works like a charm + I would still never use rupture in 5/10mans since the dot is not that stronk and the mobs die fast so you won't get the full duration anyway.
