Warlock My imp won't auto attack.

So I just started playing a warlock and I got an imp and he won't attack for me. I've got him set to defensive. Sometimes his animation starts but the attack gets interrupted. When I try to attack for him, most of the time the attack gets interrupted. Sometimes it hits. Is that normal? Is it just a vanilla thing?

EDIT: I figured out how to toggle auto attack.

Right click on his fireball icon and make sure it has the spining glow on.
