Pet can't be revived.

My pet dies and I can't revive my pet. He's just gone. I have to tame a new pet. This must be a bug, I don't recall tis happening back when I was playing a decade ago. Is there any cure? This happens a lot. In many cases the pet is happy and well trained and has been with me for several levels.
