Hello,

First of all, K1 will not survive to NAXX release (which I can see from your announcement will be on spring) and second, releasing a NAXX on K1 will again keeps the gap between K1 and K2. Regarding above, I see that your intention is to do everything to keep two servers. Due to fact, that Nost is going to reborn, which can trigger players exodus, the merge K1 and K2 is quite logical move.

From my perspective (K1 player) maybe better solution is to hold on with releasing any new content on K1, and wait untill K2 will catch up K1 - then merge. According to your plan with new content on K2 the merge is possible on February, March.
I think if people will see perspective to play on K1, they will wait for merge, which I belive is only solution to save K1 and project as a whole.

Dear Kronos Admins. Could you promise me, that if K1 will be totally dead, you will let me and my three friends transfer our characters on K2 server? We really like to play here, but due to our real life we can't afford to create new characters and start all over again.

Merge Discussion Recap

Server merge?

Let us start with the elephant in the room. This has been the single biggest request that you have made and while we understand the desire, we know that it is not immediately possible at this time. However, we simply cannot take this option off the table and must position the project as a whole to be extremely agile and able to adapt to the needs of our community. With the two servers, Kronos I and Kronos II, both sitting at different points in the vanilla timeline, an immediate merge would be a rushed and rash decision that would have lasting implications.

We share your best intentions and passions for our project and we will continue with the community's best interests in mind. Should in the future, the servers' timelines align, we will be in a position to respond swiftly if necessary.

The discussion about merging the two realms has been quite present in the forum lately due to the current state of K1's PvP/PvE scene and growing fears of K1/K2 future due to potential population loss to hyped vanilla projects coming online. I would like to make a short recap on these threads for Kronos players that may be unaware of it and to encourage all of you to share your opinion on this subject as well.

Besides vast amount of posts asking for a merge in the latest news, there is an internal poll that addresses the need to merge the realms and proposes a couple of alternatives on when to do it in relation to the realms vanilla progression timeline. There is also an open discussion about the current state of Kronos realms, which I find worth reading. I have suggested a few top-down merge ideas based on my take from many posts of these threads, and also considered focusing on transfers between the realms to catalyze a self-organized merge alternative.

On a closing note, I would like to acknowledge that defining a comprehensive merge approach is not trivial and there are a lot of heavily biased opinions out there that make even more difficult to find a good compromise. I am grateful to the Twinstar administration for taking it into consideration without rushing into any partial solution, which could cause more harm in the longer run. Nonetheless, I believe merging the realms is something that should be definitively prioritized over game content release together with any hardware upgrade you may be considering to support a larger population of a single realm. The clock is ticking and all eyes are watching your response to make a decision.

Why So Dodge?

There have been concerns about the state of the competitive PvP scene on Kronos for some time, primarily due to a few imposters that insist on trying to game the system, as opposed to engaging in games that will truly test their ability. In an effort to curb this, we will be implementing a change that will apply a deserter buff to those that do not join a battleground that they have queued for and have been asked to join.
The hope is that this will encourage people to take on the best that their opposing faction has to offer, instead of just dominating the more casual PvPers who are there to get their weekly honor and enjoy the directly competitive side of the game.
This change will come into effect after the next honor update on both Kronos I and Kronos II.

Well thank you very much, hope it has some positive impact on K2 BGs. on K1 PvP Population is already scarce, and there is none left interested in so called "dodging" (Assuming there was anyone that actually did the dodging by leaving queue in the first place)

This still is a good change that will have a very positive impact on PvP once both servers merge, i.e. from what I understand , in 4-6 months.

In general , you seem to be talking about K2 as if it was a server that will have more than 300 players in one month , I feel compelled to note that 90%+ of those who expressed their views here or in-game strongly disagree.

I think some people in this thread should go camping in the nature for a week or two to geht the hate, pressure and heat out of their hearts and brains. "Why you heff to be mad? It's only a game." And if Kronos Project fails, I know you all will go and play somewhere else, even if it means starting new. The only ones who definately not profit from a dead server are the kronos guys themselves, because right now they gain money from the project. So be sure they don't ever want the latter fact to change.

- - - Updated - - -

P.s. by your constant moaning you keep in fireing the nost hype train and make even more people think of leaving. I sense no positive energy from you, guys. Oooooooooommmmmm!

I really don't know anymore man, people who run this shit are either completely blind, completely ignorant or just don't give a fuck about the realm that kept them relevant up until the point when K2 had to be opened.

Are we going Horde or Alliance?

It's nothing because it gave a space for people in charge to dodge the talk about only real and burning problem which is population.
realproblem
rly im rly sad to play already becouse.. just say it k1 is dead. im fuckin tired whole day to play 1x wsg vs same ppl and i just altf4 game:angry::angry::angry::angry:

and what we will do when naxx is open zzz farm consumables ? ( im done whit em before 1 year ;( )

Or rly soon question will be
Are we going Horde or Alliance?

Forgot to say :
THE only good news which i see is TBC after naxx (that can give any point)

I see the toxicity is quite alive in this community still. Oh hey, Peasemold, didn't see you there.

  • Naxxramas

    23750.43%
  • Fine-tune the current 40-man raids

    14330.43%

No mention of current content tuning while it's voted 2nd highest in your own polls? Nevermind, I guess we can just mock shard's request for a blizzlike Naxxramas experience because he farmed a lot of flasks which people in Naxx on retail never used. I enjoyed the "Cool" emote by Chero mocking this request. Clever.

Anyone else getting ED flashbacks?

It's time for a little history lesson boys and girls. You see, this exact situation has happened before, a long, long time ago. (Wasn't that long ago tbh)

Feenix used to be the most popular 1.12 project with 3 realms, Al'Akir Instant 60, Warsong 12x, Emerald Dream 1x.

Warsong being the oldest and most popular one, it used to peak at 3-4k pop (correct me if I'm wrong), I never played AA, it had a lower population but still held it's community. Emerald Dream was capped at 2,5k and often had ques of 500 people. Now granted, a lot of times they didn't really handle their shit that well, so when nos announced a ton of people went there, but there was still a good amount left, who started begging for a merge.

They did nothing. They said that new projects always fail and people come running back to their homes.
We kept begging for months and they kept waiting.

Go ahead and check how many people are online at that project right now. From having 7-8k people across 3 servers down to 200 people on a good day.

TL;DR Don't sit around and wait for other projects to fail, do something to secure the future of the project

About the Merge
First of all, I am very glad that you decided to take the first steps for this, and took my suggestions for the matter. Despite what most people say and whine about it that is has to be NOW, largely exaggerating the situation, it is a good thing that you are finally releasing the so needed content on KII that will make the merge possible in the near future. I know it is not totally decided, but it's good to know you will be prepared in case the situation demands it even more than now.

Further Content
I am also very glad to see an official confirmation of this: TBC after Naxx. This was a thing that I really wanted to know. For this I thank you.

Naxxramas
Good to see that you want to make progress on this. This is one of your main ways to attract people for KI (and KII on the not so distant future), since no other project has this content available.
Please don't listen to people that say that the realm will die if you release Naxx because people who clear it will leave, they don't know what are they saying. It's naive to think that will happen, because most of the people in the world DID NOT experience Naxx (the vanilla version of course) and they want to. New people will come to accomplush that for sure, even if guilds that cleared it leave, other will come. Furthermore, now that you have clear intentions on continue your project to TBC, there is no real reason for those guilds to leave.
On other topic, I think that releasing the raid wing by wing is the right choice for this one time, in spite of what most people think and what you have said in your own project information page, as some one quoted earlier. Why? Because doing it that way will keep people attracted to the project, preparing for the next content to be released. Let's face it: we will never have an equal experience as it was back then, what you can do is give a new experience as good as that one was. If you release it wing by wing, then you won't run out of content too soon, people will have more things to do and hardcore guilds will have more reasons to stay. Just don't make the delay between each wing too long, for me 2 or 3 weeks is fine, but this is open for debate.

Lag Issues
This is the great disappointment of your announcement: not even a slight reference to Latency problems. This is the most important thing to fix right now; entire guilds are likely to leave because of this.
Even I am, despite being a very loyal player to Kronos since day 1, considering leaving the server if this does not get fixed in the nearset future. Please do something to change my mind, please make me stay.

Advertising
And finally, even though I already suggested this on my post in the suggestions forums, It doesn't hurt to repeat it.
You need to retake your former advertising strategy. Make showcases, show your quality! This will bring more people, which is truly needed on KI.

Well @vanillacoke, it's also possible to draw a completely different conclusion from the feenix duck-up.

As it turns out, they were right. Nostalrius eventually failed. Now if they hadn't pulled their stupid merge (specifically, the forced transfer to stock TBC core), perhaps feenix would still be thriving. Also the current situation of feenix has to do with a lot more than waiting too long to merge (for instance they made some incredibly stupid decisions with their new 1.12 server).

When feenix announced the merge, it was definitely long overdue. Alakir and ED had 10 players online each. Moreover, the most healthy realm was also the most progressed, meaning it was a win-win for everyone.

Here on kronos the devs are right to not make rash decisions, because as we stand right now one realm gains significantly more from a merge than the other. Imagine couple of years ago, and say Emerald dream was thriving while warsong 12x had a declining population. I'm quite sure the ED players would've raged at the thought of merging with Warsong where people already had farmed naxx.

edit: spelling

No mention of lag or the population. This means to me at least you guys don't think population or the lag is a problem. Hopefully it really isn't because boy are we going to have a fun couple months if lag remains to be rampant and the population continues to dwindle. Since you aren't going to address these I will.

Lag=players cant play your game
Declining population=Guilds eventually bleed out. A problem that Guilds on a personal level will have to deal with in the coming months if the trend continues.

Lag on Kronos I and Kronos II
Many people have reported as well as complained that there are significant Lag issues on the server. If you have issues with lag please contact Jeniczek on IRC or his email jeniczek_at_twinstar_dot_cz . Quote and link to his post in the lag thread provided below.

https://forum.twinstar.cz/showthread.php/116747-The-goddamn-lag?p=849626&viewfull=1#post849626

Hi there!

Guys, once your high latency happens, can you please come to our IRC and provide us some details we will ask you for? Or send me an email?

We definately care about a smooth gameplay, and if its not smooth for some of you, we need to find out where the problem lies. We had sorted a lot of problems with our host and mostly it is really smooth. But obviously not for everyone.

Next time it happens for you guys. You can mail me directly @ jeniczek_at_twinstar_dot_cz and send me the following details. We have created a test IP and some test procedures, which should find out where the problem lies.

Without your input, we cant solve the problems. If you want a smooth gameplay, dont be shy and shoot me a mail. Its an easy procedure.

Regards

Population on Kronos I
Kronos I players keep saying that population is an issue that needs to be addressed but a merge is not a viable option for the coming months so instead of trying to force a merge lets discuss other options to population below. Telling the kronos staff that they are stupid for not doing a merge doesn't fix anything and only inflames the situation. It's done they have decided that a merge for the time being will not occur let us adjust and come up with new suggestions.

Oh and thanks for mocking my GM Chero really helps the situation here http://imgur.com/a/NSD3j

I dont unterstand the Kronos announcement ..They say that a merge is difficult since the servers are sitting at different points in the vanilla timeline but instead of trying to get k2 closer to k1 so that a merge would be possible they speed up the naxxramas release on K1 which makes it even more difficult to merge in the future ( and a merge will probably be needed after nost/elysium opens)

At this point the only thing to do is wait and see the exact impact the Nost launch will have. We should just run the census in the week leading up to the launch and the week after and see what the impact is. Once we have those #'s we can move forward with trying to influence Kronos with the new info, because I don't see them doing anything until then.

The BG queue change is a positive step, but too late. People have been suggesting this for months while the pvp scene on K2 was slowly dying, and it gets implemented now when it's nearly dead.

Maybe it can recover, but given the impending re-release of another popular vanilla server, I doubt it.

The people saying that the server is going to die before the release of Naxx are being overly dramatic. Yeah, the population on K1 is declining, but we are still nowhere near the population levels prior to the nost influx. Kronos had about 6 months(?) to win over the nost refugees and if they haven't succeeded yet then they probably aren't going to change their minds at the last moment. Players seem to have an almost irrational connection to nost and nothing kronos is going to do can stop that hype train. I applaud the Kronos team for not making any rash decisions at this point in time, such as a premature server merge. Wait and see how the launch of nost 2.0 plays out and then discuss the possibilities of a merge.

With that being said, I think the Kronos team has to ask themselves why they failed to win over nost refugees. The fact that guilds who started on Kronos, such as Risen, are considering moving to another project is even more telling. Seems that all of the connection and lag issues are at the heart of it, which is understandable tbh. Since that hasn't been resolved in a timely matter everything else seems too little too late. At least the desperation move of a server merge wasn't chosen imo. Personally, I'm excited for Naxx and TBC and I'm hoping for the best. We shall see.

yea i dont understand too

I see the toxicity is quite alive in this community still. Oh hey, Peasemold, didn't see you there.

Hey what's up, whoever you are.

I was just pointing out the irony in wanting blizzlike progression whilst massively benefitting from an unblizzlike private server environment. I guess Chero appreciated that. Maybe he just doesn't like having to apply custom changes to the entire server because of the behaviour of the few. Maybe he just thinks I'm cool.

I love both the Kronos community, and the private server community as a whole. We are all a part of something that we feel passionately about. We all want the same thing in the end. We all are willing to fight for the ability to enjoy something that has long since been taken from us in retail. The reason we're all "here" is because we want to enjoy ourselves.

I get a lot of the frustration in the community. I am/was a player just like each and every one of you. I have been in groups that couldn't find members and ended up disbanding. I have been in raids that have been called for lack of players. I have been in raids that were impossible due to bugs and/or lag. These things are frustrating to everyone, and as a staff member I can tell you that these things frustrate us just as much as players.

I'm not a developer, nor am I a network specialist. I do not have a major computer background nor do I have a direct desire to do so. What I do have like all of you is passion. What we as a team have like all of you is passion. Whether you see us in game, on the forums, in iRC or discord, or don't see us at all does not diminish our passion for this project or for the private server community as a whole. None of us are paid to spend our time fixing quests or answering questions or patrolling zones catching bots, or investigating gold logs to put a hurting on gold sellers. The time we spend working hard for every player in our community is ours to give, and for this we do not expect anything in return. Well, let me clarify that last statement. We love making players happy by helping to solve a problem that is disturbing their game experience. It makes us happy when we can be of help, and when we can't we feel like shit. While we can only do so much, there is a lot that is outside of our capability. The enjoyment of players and their passion for the game is all the thanks we as a team need. It's why we do what we do.

Having said all that. The frustration from many players both within the Kronos community and within many other private project communities seems to be on a continual ramp up. Kronos is not alone in this, in fact another game master from a different project who volunteered his time and efforts for the exact same reasons we do could no longer take the frustration and hate that players were emitting and quit their project. I understand where players are coming from, and the problems and issues that plague many projects including ours. But understand that the constant negativity and borderline hate that comes from the player base has as much or more of a negative impact to a project than the problems themselves. It takes strong skin to be in a position such as this, and while I am not one to tell players what they can/can't say (as long as it's within the rules of the server). I do ask that everyone reading this to please think twice before you write based off pure emotion and think about how the negativity will not only effect your fellow community but those who both give their time to help others (staff and non staff alike).

I have never once not believed that Kronos has the best community in any private server. Am I bias? perhaps. I have gotten to know many players on the server both in my role as a staff member and as a regular schmo just playing the game to enjoy the content and community that retail has long since lost. Many of the names I see in this thread are players who I have either come to know in one role or the other, and I personally enjoy the passion you all bring. Seeing some of the things that has been said (and continues to be said) has been not only frustrating as a staff member, but disheartening as a volunteer and as a member of the community. Everyone is entitled to feel the way they do, I do not hold that against anyone. I do only wish that players would understand the greater scope of the situation going on not only on Kronos but the private server community as a whole.

At no point have myself nor any of our staff/devs spoken ill about any other project. In fact, if you look into my history on the wow server sub reddit you will see countless examples of myself not only praising other projects but also wishing that projects would be able to work together as a whole. Sure, that's likely wishful thinking on my part. But the simple fact is that in a community like ours, hate should be the last thing we do to any project (let alone a project you have spent a fair amount of time on). Yes, Kronos has it's flaws. Yes, some issues are more difficult to resolve than others. However rather than looking all at the bad, sometimes you need to stop and recount all the things that were good. Kronos has been through a lot in its time, and has overcome some of the most difficult odds that I challenge any server to compare. The DDoS attacks alone were powerful and lengthy enough that any other project would have taken a year(s) to recover (if at all). Those attacks were meant to kill Kronos. By sure perseverance, determination, a committed staff and an amazing community, we stood up to those who sought to harm us and we overcame. Did we make it out without scars? no, there was some lasting damage caused. We're proud of the scars we bare because they represent our dedication, and this drives us to become better.

On a personal note, I can honestly say I have never seen more dedicated people in a project than I have in Kronos. Through thick and thin we have kept on fighting, and we will keep on fighting. For all of those doomsayers who say "RIP Kronos", to so easily turn your back on a project that has dedicated so much to you is your decision to make. That won't stop us from doing what we do out of passion. Our team as a whole works endless hours and often without any thanks. Fix one issue, players bring up two more. Fix those two, and two more occur. This is a never ending cycle, and in the human population of the world people as a whole always expect more. We're not perfect, perfection is a mirage. However we are, and will continue to be relentless. The dedication and hard work we put in is not going anywhere. None of us will ever hold a gun to your heads and say you can only play here, and to those who view Kronos as doom and gloom and will "jump ship" at the next new shiny project I encourage you to decide what is best for you. We (Kronos) will still be here, continuing this great journey to Naxx and TBC.

In the end we all want some place that is fun and a place where we can meet people and come together. Kronos still is the best community, there is no comparison. I look forward to continue helping and watching Kronos grow, and am very excited for the fun that is to come for Kronos as a whole. I have complete confidence in our staff, in our devs, and in Twinstar. We've come this far through far worse things, and we'll continue to improve the project as a whole. Our community and our quality are our main priorities, and we will do everything we can to continue to be top notch in both. Our heads are not in the sand, our eyes are wide open and we encourage players to come along for the ride if they so choose.

We'll see you in game, and have a great day to all :)
