Priest Priest leveling?

Hi there!

Since its only a few days left until release I was wondering what talents you are picking while leveling your priest? As far as I understand, Wand Specialization and Spirit Tap is a must and is the first two to pick, but then what?

I have seen some people arguing that Shadow tree is very mana-consuming and not worth it untill level 40/45 when you can get Shadowform, and insted are picking talents from the Discipline tree. At level 35 you have something looking like this: http://www.wowprovider.com/?talent=11215875_5_81502301305c1s5p

Is it a good idea to continue down the Discipline tree, or even pick talents from the Holy tree, and at level 50 you end up like this: http://www.wowprovider.com/?talent=11215875_5_81502301305051e505l5p

The argument here is that you kill slower then if you go Shadow, but consume less mana and have less downtime with this Discipline/Holy build. It may also be a little bit easier healing in 5-man dungeons.

What do you guys and girls think? Share your wisdom! :)

I see this shit all the time from people over on the Nost forums who swear that Disc is the leveling build because shadow priests will run out of mana so fast that blah blah blah; it's all stupid.

Ignoring Wand Spec., Disc has no talents in its tree at all that increase the amount of damage you can do to mobs prior to Force of Will, which is pretty bad as a general rule until you get decent gear, and Power Infusion (the 31 point talent). Shadow does. Imp SW:p helps if you pull more than 1 mob, Mindflay is an amazingly mana efficient spell - especially at higher levels, Shadow Weaving, Darkness, Imp Mindblast, etc. Disc is a tree that on its own is awful, but becomes powerful when combined with the holy tree. I think a lot of people watched Beckon's PvPriest 4 video (The one where he Smite spec in WSG with Naxx level gear, flasked, potted, with a pocket Disc priest getting 2k+ crits) and thought instantly that Disc Smite was the way to go from now on. Honestly, there is no leveling spec a priest can take that can match the dmg output, survivability, and mana efficiency of shadow if you play it right. My typical rotation to kill mobs as shadow is Mindblast, SW:p while backpedaling/strafe running, Mindflay once or twice, then wand till the mob dies. Stack Spirit gear while leveling, and just make sure you're into the 5 second window when the mob dies so spirit tap can take full effect for its duration, and you're golden.

As far as healing 5 mans, I healed them all day on my shadow priest on retail and never had a problem. I even solo healed a guild run through UBRS once I'd been raiding for a while and picked up some off-set healing gear). Priests are powerful enough healers that you don't need to worry about speccing disc/holy in order to be able to heal, at least 5 mans.

The build I plan on going with will look something like this at 35
http://www.wowprovider.com/?talent=11215875_5_8zg5c2322101511210

and then this at 50
http://www.wowprovider.com/?talent=11215875_5_805c32z5002322101511251

I'll fill out Shadow Reach and pick up the third tier of Disc talents the last 10 levels.

**Note** I hate respeccing, so I don't have a problem suffering through the first 40 levels without wand spec, plus I was almost always broke in Vanilla, so I don't want to farm an extra gold for respec cost when I need my mount. How you feel about that is obviously up to you though.

Is it possible Gilthresa to change those links from wowpriver to http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent since wowprovider doesn't work and i can't see what you propose there. I'm planning to roll a priest as a 2nd toon, i played mostly as main class at late TBC and afterwards in WotLK which things had changed much.
